Siempre se mantuvieron como una agrupación de blancos, con la excepción de Miguelito Valdés, mestizo claro, cuya presencia era aceptada en los exclusivos y excluyentes lugares donde solían tocar. Además de los músicos de plantilla, solían incluir a otros para las grabaciones, como Arsenio Rodríguez (tres) o Ramoncito Castro (bongó), ambos negros y cuyo color no se escuchaba en los discos. En los tres primeros años de su existencia la Orquesta Casino de la Playa realizó un total de 60 grabaciones para la RCA Víctor. En el cuarenta, Sacasas y Miguelito Valdés la abandonaron y se instalaron en los Estados Unidos, donde desarrollaron sus propias carreras. En noviembre de 1945 comienza una nueva etapa en la orquesta, con la inclusión como cantante de Orlando Guerra, más conocido como "Cascarita", y, por presiones de éste, entra un nuevo pianista, que también haría historia: Dámaso Pérez Prado. A partir de 1948, año en que Cascarita abandona a la Casino de la Playa, la orquesta sufre altibajos, hasta desaparecer a finales de los cincuenta o comienzos de los sesenta.
