Le scene della tortura di Bond sono state parzialmente tagliate rispetto alla versione originaria perché altrimenti il film non avrebbe ottenuto nel Regno Unito il visto "12A" (ossia: età minima 12 anni con accompagnamento di un adulto) del British Board of Film Classification. A detta del regista la pellicola contiene le scene più crude che siano mai state girate in un film di 007. James Bond si guadagna la licenza di "doppio 0" uccidendo atrocemente due traditori dell'MI6 a Praga. Subito dopo, in Madagascar, Bond insegue ed uccide un mercenario, assoldato per compiere un attentato. L'assassinio però viene ripreso dalle telecamere all'interno dell'ambasciata di uno stato africano, generando un caos mediatico che comporta la momentanea sospensione del neopromosso agente 007.
